I started responding to Frank Auerbach particularly responding to his use of colours. Most of my sketchbook ideas show experimentation of brush techniques and looking into colour. I also experimented using a palette knife to create a different effect and to see if it would create a harsher look. It was fun using the palette knife because i was really messy with it and was free. I also took photos of different angles of myself to create an odd feel, for example just the top of my head. I just wanted to be more looser in the way I paint and be messier and experiment figuratively. I want my paintings to look obscure and kind of sickly to show how it feels to have insomnia.
